Aslamu alaykum

What do you think of this tariqa that says it represents the Qadriya tariqa, where they have zikr gatherings, which are held in northern Iraq, murids perform acts such as poking themsleves with knives, eating light tubes and blades etc etc??

Brother what you have described has nothing to do with tareeqa qadiriyyah.That is really very strange.These things are reminding me of shias behavior,they are good at playing with knives and poking themselves

Well they say they are sunnis and their shaykh is from the Shafai school of thought and decended from the Ahlal bayth athar. I have looked at the shajra of their silsila and looks genuine, which i dont understand is the reason why would one want to perform such acts, when the purpose of joining a tariqa is to make effort in purifying one self spiritualy?

Salaam,There you go brother Abu Hafsah you answered yourself.Why would anybody do such practices if the main reason of a tariqa is to help with spirituality.And poking ones self with knives or blades etc does not bring someone towards spirituality.So there is something wrong some where,hmmmm.

It is origanted from Imam Rifai who was a great sufi saint, who used to do zikr by stabbing himself whilst in wajd, he used to do this by praying a wazifa which he has written in a book of wazifas. He was banished from the town because people started worshipping him. He got this kitab and said to his son, bury it and never let anyone get hold of it, the son went with his frend and buried it. when the son passed away, the frend got the book and spread the wazifas, and people use this wazifa to hurt themselves and not get hurt,

The more probable reason is that they are affiliated with the rifa`is who would perofrm such acts without an effect as karamaat, bringing people to Islam. HOWEVER, what benefit is there in performing it now? The act was controversial from the beginning, and now that there is no purpose for it, it should be stopped. It is not giving sunnis a good name anymore, it is doing the opposite. Moreover, the purpose of the tariqah -- and any valid tariqah, for that matter -- is to attain closeness to Allah. How does perorming acts of self-harm serve as a means of taqarrub ilaLlah now, when people are already muslims and the vast majority appreciate tasawwuf?

Which of the Scholars declared it haraam??

It would be difficult to convince one brother who follows this path to shun it or choose another sufi path.
