I personally think Dimashqiyya was simply unqualified to debate. He didn't have what it takes to stand against sh yasin.

Salam

I agree. The Salafi Sheikh came with arguments that weren't even relevant to the actual topic (the definition of bida').

I was impressed with the Sunni Sheikhs Masha'Allah. Especially in their Brummy accent. May Allah SWT preserve them. Could someone put up the picture of their Sheikh/teacher (if possible). Jazak'Allah Khair.

Also I liked how there was Naat Paak being recited in another part of the mosque just before the debate started off. Also the Zikr mehfil during the debate.

Salam
[And We said in the Taurât (Torah)]: "It maybe that your Lord may show mercy unto you, but if you return (to sins), We shall return (to Our punishment). And We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.
Surah 17, Verse 8.

MashaAllah this was a very good debate indeed, and all the Ahle Sunnah scholars who very honourably represented the Ahle sunnah position deserve a lot of credit may Allah Almighty bless every single one of them especially Shaykh Yasin, via the wasila of his beloved Prophet may salaam be upon him.

I found Damashaqi to be a very very weak debater; I also strongly doubt he will be debating again. Here are a few of his mistakes I came across bearing in mind most of these are irrelevant to the topic he shouldn’t have been mentioning them anyway, but these are common things the so called salafies / wahabies use to mislead innocent sunnies

1. he said Christians celebrate birthdays

Is this mentioned in any Ayah or Hadith? After all we follow Quran and Hadith, in which Ayah or Hadith does it say the Christians celebrate birthdays? Just because Christians celebrate it today, this doesn’t mean they always have, there is a very strong chance, also I have complied some proofs which suggests the Muslims started celebrating birthdays and the Christians followed

2. He said we don’t allow the Christians to celebrate birthdays yet we do celebrate birthdays ourselves why is this?

Who doesn’t allow the Christian to celebrate birthdays? We follow Quran and Hadith, in which Ayah or hadith does it state the Christian where forbidden from celebrating birthdays? What we dont allow are celebration in a haram manner, for example celebrating by getting drunk and this we also don’t allow for ourselves.

3. He asked a question if the Holy Prophet may salaam be upon him knew about celebrating birthdays and if he did why didn’t he declare it permissible

I have a counter question

Did Allah Know about birthdays? If so why didn’t he declare them a bidda as the wahbies claim they are. Also Damashaqi during the answer and question session, paid a huge emphasis on how we should not explore and ask questions about what the Holy Prophet may salaam be upon him remained silent about, then why is he asking this question?

4. He was promoting the idea that to touch the grave's of the Prophets may salaam be upon him is an act of the Christians and Jews

The Jews only believe in the Prophet Musa may salaam be upon him and no Jews past or present knew or knows where the grave of Prophet Musa may salaam be upon him is so how could they have touched it?

The Christians only believe in the Prophet Isa may salaam be upon him and Prophet Isa may salaam be upon him doesn’t have a grave so how could the Christians ever have touched it?

5. Damashaqi was repeatedly asked for the ruling on one who believes bidda is two types yet he never answered why not? Was it that hard a question?

6. Damashaqi at one point asked what guarantee do you have the biddas you practise are approved by Allah Almighty or not?

So they are some biddas which are approved by Allah Almighty according to Damashaqi himself!

7. Damashaqi was asked about the books of Jarh and tadeel and if he believed these were bidda He replied that during the time of the Holy Prophet may salaam be upon him, hadiths were written down, well there is a huge difference between hadiths being written down and books of Jarh tadeel being compiled the two are aboutdifferent topics altogther

8.Damashaqi said that the hadith of umar RadiAllah Anhu saying 'what a good bidda' refers to form of worship and not the actual then which ‘bidda’ is it that we do that doesn’t have actual which is good?

9. Damashaqi said mentioning of making the Quran small (fontwise) has nothing to do with the topic.

Whereas how many things did he mentioned that aren’t anything to do with the topic. This (about making the Quran small) was just said as an example that just as its possible that the scholars differ if something is permissible or not they may also differ in what type of bidda a certain act may fall under.

10. During the debate he admits that his definition yesterday was from his own pocket! So much for the 'Salafis' just following Quran and Hadith, and what else have the wahabies invented from their own pockets?

These are just some of the mistakes of Damashaqi that I spotted, some of these were picked up in the debate but some not. All these prove what I said above

That

I found Damashaqi to be a very very weak debater; I also strongly doubt he will be debating again.
